The Best Day and Time to Network, According to 3,336 Events
Netwarming Team · Friday, October 16, 2026
There is no single best time to network. We looked at every event on Netwarming and found four different answers, depending on whether you are going to a chamber mixer, a professional association, a volunteering morning or a social club.
Everyone has an opinion about when to network. Breakfast people are evangelists. Evening people think breakfast people are unwell. Nobody has the numbers.
So we looked. This is every event listed on Netwarming as of October 2026: 3,336 events from 564 organizations across 36 states. Not a survey, not opinion, and not a sample we chose. It is what organizers actually put on their calendars.
The headline is that the question is wrong. There is no single best time to network, because "networking" is four different activities that behave nothing like each other.
The four kinds of room
Every organization on Netwarming sits in one of four categories, and they turn out to keep completely different hours.
Networking is chambers of commerce, Rotary, BNI, LeTip and referral groups — 29% of what we list. Industry is professional associations, the bar association chapter and the local realtor board — 38%. Give back is causes and volunteering — 25%. Social is country clubs and city clubs — 7%.
Which day
Share of each category's events, by day of the week.
| Category | Mon | Tue | Wed | Thu | Fri | Sat | Sun |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Networking | 4.9% | 20.9% | 20.2% | 25.2% | 12.2% | 11.4% | 5.2% |
| Industry | 10.8% | 18.5% | 27.0% | 25.7% | 8.9% | 4.5% | 4.6% |
| Give back | 13.2% | 12.4% | 12.0% | 15.4% | 16.4% | 19.3% | 11.4% |
| Social | 9.3% | 16.7% | 14.5% | 14.1% | 10.1% | 18.5% | 16.7% |
Across everything, Tuesday to Thursday is 60% of all networking. But the categories get there differently. Industry is the most concentrated: 71% of professional association events happen Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, and only 9% of them are on a Friday. Give back is the only category that spreads evenly through the week and the only one that leans into the weekend. Social is the only one where the weekend genuinely leads.
Monday is bad everywhere. For chambers and referral groups it is almost dead at 4.9% — roughly one event in twenty.
Which time
Share of each category's events, by time of day. This covers the 61% of events that publish a start time.
| Category | Breakfast | Lunch | Afternoon | Evening | Median start |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Networking | 34.8% | 15.0% | 12.3% | 31.7% | 12:00 |
| Industry | 32.8% | 28.5% | 12.3% | 23.1% | 12:00 |
| Give back | 27.5% | 20.5% | 21.1% | 25.9% | 14:00 |
| Social | 25.8% | 13.1% | 12.1% | 42.4% | 16:30 |
Breakfast means 8:00 to 10:59, lunch 11:00 to 13:59, afternoon 14:00 to 16:59, evening 17:00 to 19:59.
Networking is bimodal. It is a breakfast-or-evening activity with very little in between — 67% of chamber and referral events fall into those two windows and only 15% happen over lunch. These are events designed to bookend your working day rather than interrupt it.
Industry is the opposite. Professional associations are the lunch category at 28.5%, nearly double anyone else, because a CLE session or a chapter lunch is something your employer expects you to be at. It is the one category that treats networking as part of the working day rather than either side of it.
Social is overwhelmingly evening at 42.4%, which will surprise nobody, and has the latest median start of any category at 16:30.
The single most common slot in each category
| Category | Most common slot |
|---|---|
| Networking | Thursday evening |
| Industry | Thursday morning |
| Give back | Saturday morning |
| Social | Tuesday evening |
If you remember one thing, make it this. The most common hour across everything is 9am, followed by 6pm, 5pm, noon and 8am. But that average hides four different schedules, and planning around the average is how you end up at the wrong thing.
What to do with this
If you are choosing events to attend, pick the category that matches what you actually want, then expect its hours. Wanting referral relationships but only being free in the evening means chamber mixers rather than breakfast groups, and both exist. Wanting to meet people outside your industry means Saturday morning is a better bet than Tuesday lunch, because that is when the volunteering is.
If you are an organizer, the crowded slots are crowded for a reason, but Thursday evening is the single most contested slot on the calendar and Monday is empty. A Monday evening event competes with almost nothing.
If you are time-poor, Tuesday to Thursday is where 60% of everything is. One midweek breakfast and one midweek evening a month puts you in front of both halves of the networking category.
How we worked this out and where it is weak
Worth being straight about what this is and is not.
It is supply, not demand. These numbers are what organizers scheduled, not what people attended. We have no attendance data, so this says when networking is available, not when it is best attended. Those are different questions and we can only answer the first one honestly.
39% of events do not publish a start time, so the time tables cover 2,050 events rather than all 3,336. If untimed events are systematically different — and all-day and multi-day things probably are — that skews the picture in a way we cannot measure.
The geography is uneven. 31% of these events are in Pennsylvania, 15% in California and 9% in Washington, spread over 36 states. It leans mid-Atlantic. A city with a different industry mix would likely look different.
This is a snapshot taken in October 2026 and the calendar moves. Over half our catalogue turns over within a month.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best day of the week for networking events?
Thursday, which carries 25.2% of chamber and referral group events and 25.7% of professional association events. Across all 3,336 events we analysed, Tuesday to Thursday accounts for 60% of everything. Monday is the quietest day by a wide margin.
What time do most networking events start?
9am is the single most common start time, followed by 6pm, 5pm, noon and 8am. But the pattern splits by category: chambers and referral groups are breakfast-or-evening with little in between, professional associations lean to lunch, and social clubs are 42% evening.
Are networking events better in the morning or the evening?
For chambers and referral groups it is close to an even split — 34.8% breakfast against 31.7% evening — so both are well served and the choice is yours. Professional associations skew earlier and to lunch. Social clubs are overwhelmingly evening.
When should I schedule a networking event I am hosting?
Thursday evening is the most common slot in the database, which means it is also the most contested. If you want to avoid competing, Monday is nearly empty across every category, and Friday afternoon and evening are thin everywhere except volunteering.
